The first crochet workshop
We had the one who couldn't stop making chain after chain after chain. I had to let my desire of teaching single crochet stitches to her go and let her enjoy her chain-making journey. And just when I did - she was ready to move on to learning the single stitch. Don't force them, let them explore their own journey.
We had the one who came for a beginner meeting, yet she already made a (half) blanket at home. I had to let my desire of pushing her into more complex projects go. Trust them, they know what they need.
We had the one who doesn't even look up and made her first project just simply following the handout. Not everyone needs you. Sometimes they just need the space to facilitate their learning. And that's ok.
And of course, we had the ones who undo their projects after each imperfect row. I would love to convince them that it is all right, let's embrace your imperfect rows. But who am I to tell them how to feel about their work? Let them undo it as long as they feel like it. Just keep going - if you don't stop, it all comes together eventually. It always does.
I wanted everyone in the group to treat every single stitch with a sense of achievement - not focusing on any project, not looking into the future and wondering what it might be, just focusing on one stitch at a time and having trust that all the pieces fall into place eventually.
They always do.
Hope to continue this teaching/learning journey in this beautiful community!
